OLFAKTOMAT®
Principle of working:
OLFAKTOMAT® controls the presentation of odor carriers via the static
dilution of gas and registers in that way the sense of smell of the human.
Application:
With OLFAKTOMAT® taken analysis yields to two main tasks:
1. With respect to known odor concentrations which scales the smell
sensation it is possible to determine the human ability to smell.
2. The determination unknown odor concentrations with the human
sense of smell as the detector. Because the human sense of smell will
be able to recognize odor concentrations well below of the limits of
chemical and physical measuring, there is no alternative to the detection
with the human nose.
Determination of Odors and Odor limits:
- Room-air and exhaust-air
- Immision, Emission
- Solvents and mixtures of solvents (lacquer and colors , cosmetics, cleaning products, beverages e.g.)
- Solid materials (synthetic material, recycling material, furniture, textiles, carpets packaging, foodstuffs, ground samples)
Description of working:
OLFAKTOMAT® is based on the method of static dilution of gas. The
pressure within a gasproof vessel which contains the prepared sample
will be doubled (with smell free gases like air or nitrogen). Afterwards
the contents will be purged through a nosemask back to normal pressure.
To determine the smell threshold this will be repeated until the testing
person smells nothing.
